I’m a writer, an editor, and have worked in management. My stories have been published by a daily newspaper, weeklies, magazines and websites. I wrote and published seven nonfiction books, including six books for young adults, and “High Fit Home,” a book about architecture and fitness for HarperCollins. I’ve managed various publishing projects.
For 17 years, I worked at NAPS, a public relations features service, as a writer, editor and eventually vice-president.
After that I worked as a writer, editor and eventually president of KpopStarz, a k-pop and k-drama site that received 25 million unique monthly visits. As president I supervised editorial personnel, managed corporate communications, and promoted partnerships with other companies.
Currently, I’m freelancing for a variety of publications.
The stories I seem to gravitate to involve health, parenting, food, history, women’s issues, pop culture, k-pop, k-drama, and Korea. I also really like doing interviews, particularly of artists and writers, but also of anyone with an interesting story to tell.
Here are some of the places I contributed content to and some of the companies I’ve done editorial work for.
Contributed stories to: American Baby, Art Times, Centers for the Advancement of Health, Chronogram, Cosmetic Dermatology, Croton-Cortlandt Gazette, Drug Topics, Health Behavior News Service, HelloGiggles, House Beautiful, Hudson Valley Magazine, KpopStarz, KdramaStars, Kultscene, Los Angeles Review of Books, Journal News, Macg Magazine, Mental Floss, Patch.com, Paste, Peekskill Star, Playboy, Pregistry.com, SniffandBarkens.com, SpineUniverse.com, The Independent, TheMarySue.com, The New York Times, Tucson Festival of Books, TortugaBackpacks.com, VisitVortex, Women’s News and ZLiving.
Editorial work for: Breakthrough Publications, Consumer Reports Books, Enslow Publishing, GEO, Gibbs Smith, Glitterati Inc., Guide Communications, Hunter House Publishing, Mason Crest Publishers, New Horizons Press, Quarto Publishing Company, Running Heads Inc., Whitney Library of Design, William Morrow, Visual Education Corporation.
I’ve been writing about Korean drama and culture for more than three years. I’m sometimes asked for my perspective, which I enjoy sharing with the media and fellow fans. Here are some of the ways I interacted with media and shared my insight:
- I discussed Korean dramas on three KCON panels, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
- Was interviewed by Quartz media for news piece on the diverse appeal of kpop fans,
- Was featured in the “How Do You Hallyu?” promo for upcoming documentary, “How Do You Hallyu?” and
- Consulted on production of upcoming k-pop TV series.
Managed KDramaStars Facebook page (attracting more than 125,000 new likes in two years) and developed social media campaigns with the company’s communications coordinator. Blogged for Patch.com, OddnessWeirdness.com, KDramaStars.com.
TL:DR: I’m a conscientious writer and have experience managing social media, speaking in public, and dealing with the press.
